The AI Trade Cracks Crypto, Base Blocks Get Faster, and a DAO Weighs Binance
The AI trade cracked, and crypto went down with it, but the stranger thing this week is a DAO being asked to hand a hacked exchange its money back.
Crypto spent this week proving it still moves when the Nasdaq sneezes, which is not quite the independence anyone was promised. Underneath the mess, 2 genuinely interesting things happened to the plumbing.

Pick a custody setup, throw incidents at it, and see what survives. Test an exchange hack, lost keys, and more across custody approaches.
See how collaborative custody helps protect generational wealth: you hold two keys, Unchained holds one, and its key alone can't move your bitcoin. Try it free.

Market-Moving News
The selloff is the part you already felt, so here is what actually got decided while you were watching the candles.
A chain cut its block times to a fifth of what they were, which breaks more than it sounds like it should. And the largest exchange in the world is asking a crowd of token holders to vote on giving it back its money.

BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF Tops $1 Billion in Five-Day Outflows

BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust recorded $105 million in net withdrawals, bringing its outflows over 5 consecutive trading sessions to about $1.04 billion.
The withdrawals formed part of a broader retreat from U.S. crypto funds. Spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $430.2 million in the latest session, while Ether ETFs recorded another $99.9 million in outflows, bringing combined withdrawals to roughly $530 million.
Fidelity's Reversal Adds to the Pressure
Fidelity's Bitcoin fund led the latest withdrawals with $199.9 million, following $236.7 million in inflows during the previous session. Demand reversed sharply even through one of the market's largest providers.
Net outflows mean redemptions exceeded new subscriptions. The figures reflect activity by fund holders, rather than a corporate decision by BlackRock or Fidelity to withdraw their own money.
Borrowed Positions Face Forced Closures
CoinDesk's morning report recorded more than $1.27 billion in crypto derivatives liquidations over 24 hours—over $1.1 billion involved bullish positions that had depended on prices holding up or rising.
Those forced closures added pressure as ETF demand weakened. Liquidations and fund withdrawals measure different activity and cannot be combined into one outflow total.
Take: Access through major asset managers does not guarantee steady demand for Bitcoin. The market's buying support looks weaker when you account for both repeated fund withdrawals and the forced closure of borrowed positions.
Fresh buying will matter more than the size or familiarity of the firms offering these products.

Zcash Cuts Its Block-Time Target From 75 to 25 Seconds

Zcash activated its NU7 network upgrade, reducing the target time between blocks from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. The change aims to shorten confirmation waits for private payments while reducing the work wallets perform to find incoming transactions.
The upgrade also changes how transaction fees support miners.
Alongside those changes, retiring Zcash's original Sprout privacy pool has left approximately 12,224 ZEC, worth around $15 million, unspendable under the new rules.
Faster Blocks Support More Payment Activity
NU7 more than doubles capacity for simple private transactions using Zcash's Orchard system, from approximately 2.9 to 6.6 transactions per second.
It also limits transaction activity that could otherwise force wallets to download and scan excessive data.
The 25-second interval remains a target. Actual block times adjust gradually, and exchanges and payment services set their own confirmation requirements.
Transaction Fees Help Fund Future Security
Miners receive 40% of transaction fees, while 60% leaves circulation through a reserve mechanism. Those reserved coins are intended to support future mining rewards starting around 2031, within Zcash's existing 21 million coin limit.
The mechanism prepares for declining mining rewards. Sprout balances remain inaccessible, with no approved recovery mechanism.
Take: NU7 gives Zcash more capacity for routine private payments. The business case becomes clearer when you consider whether shorter waits lead to regular use by payment services and their customers.
Sustained activity would also provide more fees to support the network's future security.

Ondo Passes $4 Billion in Tokenized Assets

Ondo Finance has surpassed $4 billion across 484 tokenized assets, placing it first in RWA.xyz's ranking of platforms distributing financial assets through blockchain networks. The ranking excludes stablecoins.
The platform offers tokens tied to Treasury-linked investments, stocks, and exchange-traded funds. Eligible users can hold those products in digital wallets, connecting familiar financial assets with crypto infrastructure.
Treasury Products Provide Most of the Foundation
Ondo reported more than $3 billion across its Treasury products, while tokenized stocks and ETFs exceeded $900 million. Its stock-and-ETF offering covers more than 430 products across Ethereum, Solana, and BNB Chain.
The broader product range operates across 10 blockchains, giving Ondo several networks through which to distribute assets.
Product Value Differs From Company Revenue
The $4 billion measures the value of Ondo's tokenized products. It does not represent company revenue or money invested in the separate ONDO governance token.
Ownership rights also depend on the product. Ondo's stock-linked tokens provide economic exposure to underlying securities without giving holders direct ownership of those shares.
Take: Ondo's milestone points to a substantial business distributing traditional financial products through crypto infrastructure.
The commercial opportunity depends on more than assets held, so you also need evidence of repeat activity and the fees the platform retains.
Larger balances establish reach, while lasting revenue will determine the business payoff.

UnifAI Network (UAI): $0.20 [+104%]
UnifAI builds the plumbing for AI agents that need to reach on-chain tools and move money without a human approving each step, which is either the next thing or a very fashionable sentence depending on your mood.
Turnover ran around 84% of its market cap, so the attention is not imaginary. It is also trading near the highest level it has ever seen, and there is no price history above here to tell you what usually happens next.
Harmony (ONE): $0.001 [+55%]
The strangest name on the list, because Harmony is busy switching itself off.
After an exploit involving unauthorized minting over the summer, the core team moved to retire the layer 1 entirely and reissue ONE on Ethereum as an ERC-20, airdropping the new version to wallets, staking delegations, and exchange balances.
Anything parked in a smart contract has to be pulled out by hand. The block explorer shuts down later this month, and older records need exporting before it goes.
Cyber (CYBER): $0.36 [+54%]
The turnover is the whole story here. Several times its market cap changed hands in a day, comfortably the heaviest churn on the board and the sort of figure that usually means a squeeze rather than a revaluation.
Cyber runs an OP Stack layer 2 with an AI copilot and a few dozen apps on top.
Worth knowing its consumer wallet product was retired over the summer, with leftover balances needing direct contract calls to reach, so what you are buying here is the chain rather than the app.
Gold Back in Focus (Sponsored)
"I'm a gold person." With those words, Trump set something big in motion, and it could affect every retirement account in the country.
Last year, gold overtook U.S. Treasuries as the largest reserve asset held by world central banks: 27% of reserves against 22%. Central banks have bought an average of 1,000 tonnes a year for four straight years.

Future Forward
A rule proposal in a queue, an unlock that dwarfs its own float, and a mainnet.
Regulation:
🏛️ A broker-dealer rule proposal is sitting with the White House review office. The SEC sent over amendments covering capital, customer protection, and recordkeeping for crypto assets, flagged as economically significant. It is a proposal under review, so the text is not public, and nothing has been decided.
Token Unlocks:
🔓 GRVT releases about 73.6M tokens on the 29th. That works out to roughly 64% of everything currently circulating, which is the figure that matters rather than the dollar value. An unlock is not automatically selling, but it is a lot of new float turning up at once.
Launches:
🚀 LayerZero’s Zero mainnet and its ATLAS trading layer are scheduled for the end of the month. More than a dozen venues are expected at launch, with ATLAS as the plumbing underneath and third parties supplying the front ends.
Crypto Know-How: Your Transaction Went Through. It Is Not Final.
Base just cut its blocks to 200 milliseconds, so here is the distinction that gets expensive the moment anyone ignores it.
A transaction has 3 states, not 1. Included means a block contains it. On a fast chain, that happens almost instantly, and it feels like the end of the story.
It is not. On a rollup, that block’s contents still have to be posted down to Ethereum in a batch. Once the batch lands, your transaction is safe, meaning reversing it would now take something going badly wrong at the settlement layer.
Then Ethereum has to finalize the block holding that batch. Only then is it final, in the sense that undoing it means breaking Ethereum itself.
The gap between those 3 states did not shrink when blocks got faster. Only the first step sped up. The other 2 run on Ethereum’s clock, and that clock has not changed.
Which is why an exchange still makes you wait for confirmations on a chain producing 5 blocks a second. It is not being slow. It is waiting for the step that counts.
Everything Else
With the Magnificent Seven maturing, analysts say the next wave of leaders may already be forming, and these seven stocks could be the ones to watch.
INJ now has a staked exchange-traded fund trading on Nasdaq under the ticker INJC, which stakes the tokens it holds rather than parking them, and charges a 1.10% sponsor fee.
USDC has arrived inside Samsung Wallet through a new stablecoin account running on Solana, open to eligible US Galaxy owners and able to send to more than 60 countries.
AAVE got bought on the secondary market by a fund affiliated with Kraken’s parent and by its clients, with the firm signaling it wants a closer relationship with the lender.
GT’s exchange has published a standard it calls proof of security, measuring whether cold storage would cover a complete hot-wallet loss, and reports its own coverage at just above 100%.
XRP slid to an 11-week low and long traders wore nearly all of the pain, with about $21.8M liquidated on that side of the book alone.
A tech selloff reminding crypto whose coattails it is riding, a chain making blocks 10 times more often and quietly breaking anything that was counting them, and the biggest exchange in the world asking token holders to vote its money back under New York law.
Three versions of the same lesson about where control actually sits when it matters. Go check what your exchange counts as a confirmation.
